Welcome to Domaine de Gauchoux, and welcome to the world of horseback archery.

For those discovering this discipline, the principle may seem simple: shooting arrows at targets from a moving horse. But behind this spectacular image lies an extremely comprehensive sport.

​

The rider must be able to mount their horse without using their hands to steer it, as they are occupied with the bow and arrows. They must therefore find true balance and communication with their horse, while maintaining speed, precision, and control of their shot.

​

It is this combination that makes horseback archery so rich: horsemanship, archery, and above all, the cooperation between the horse and its rider.

​

The Gauchoux International Open is now in its 11th edition. For several days, from August 19th to 22nd, 2026, Gauchoux will host riders coming to compete in different events and different levels of competition.

​

In the morning, you can follow the 2★ and 3★ competitions.

At the end of the day, the World Masters 4★ takes place, bringing together some of the world's best riders. Three days of qualifying will determine the best for the grand final on Saturday, August 22nd.

​

But the Gauchoux Open is not just a competition.

​

Our aim is also to introduce and share our sport. That's why introductory sessions and activities are offered to the public in the afternoon.

​

This will allow you to observe the different shooting techniques, understand the competitions, discover the work of the horses and above all see how the best riders manage to combine speed, balance and precision.

​

Whether you are already familiar with horseback archery or are discovering it today, take the time to look at the horses as much as the archers: in our sport, performance does not come solely from the rider.
